Service Project at Camp Rockefeller

Posted on Jan 23 2014 - 2:10pm

Scouts,

Please mark February 8 on your calendars.  Troop 99 has the honor and privilege of adopting a campsite at the Blass Scout Reservation.  The campsite "Turkey Flats" was chosen by the troop and is also our campsite for summer camp.  A work day has been scheduled for us to visit the campsite and perform maintenance, clean, and check the tarps.  I am also told some drainage erosion is starting to show.

Meet at Covenant Presbyterian at 7:30 AM on February 8
Back at the church by 5:00 PM.

Pack a lunch, and please bring a signed permission slip with you.

We also need:

Shovels
Rakes
Brooms
Gloves

Each Scout will need:

Warm clothing
Gloves
Work shoes
Water
Lunch
Permission slip

Please plan on participating...  A Scout is helpful!

Stamp Collecting Merit Badge opportunity

Posted on Jan 10 2014 - 8:53pm

The American Philatelic Society, America's largest stamp collecting organization, will be holding their winter stamp show at the Statehouse Convention Center, February 14-16. On Saturday, February 15, I will be offering a Stamp Collecting Merit Badge workshop on the show floor. The program runs from 10am-4pm. There is no cost to attend the show; however, the fee for the Merit Badge workshop is just $20.00, which includes a notebook, stamps, and stamp collecting tools for each boy to keep. While attending the show, the boys will get a tour of the show floor where they will be able to view a copy of the "Inverted Jenny," the most recognized printing error on any U.S. stamp.
Boys may register on the APS website at http://stamps.org/ASE-Function-Tickets; or they may contact me at jehouser@stamps.org.
Please share this information with the boys in your troop.
Thank you,
Janet Houser
APS Program Coordinator

2013: A Record Year for Eagle Scouts!

Posted on Dec 30 2013 - 5:24pm

2013 saw 9 different Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout and one other complete every requirement but his Board of Review (Daniel Klopfenstein). This is 1 more than the largest previous class of Eagles (there were 8 in 2006).
